As a little kid Laurie always loved to play “store” and pretend she was a hairstylist. Fast forward to 2004 when Laurie combined her love for hair and entrepreneurial spirit and opened Urban Texture Hair Studio in her house NW Calgary. Laurie has always placed a huge emphasis on Guest experience and wants everyone who comes through the door to feel at home, and this atmosphere is what continues to define Urban Texture today.
With the growth of the studio, Laurie has since placed more focus on guest relations and leading her team. Education is a passion for Laurie, so don’t be shocked if you see her behind the chair providing ongoing training for our team!
Colour is hands-down Laurie’s passion, in particular soft blended balayage. When it comes to cuts she can cut it all, but man can she cut a damn good bob. Laurie did her training to become a stylist throughout high school in cosmetology class then went on to complete her training at Delmar Collage of Hair. To name a few, she is certified in Eurfora’s Foundations Hair Cutting System and is a Schwarzkopf Certified Blonde Expert and Laurie was also invited to help behind the scenes to colour hair for the hair models in preparation for a Scwarzkopf Essential Looks Hair Show. She’s a Journeyman Red Seal Hairstylist and regularly attends and even travels for education and industry events. Some of her favourite spots have been: Las Vegas, Toronto and San Diego.
Fun Fact: Laurie is always willing to try new things even if it scares her. She is 6'3" tall, hates socks and loves bare feet, especially when those bare feet are in the sand on her travels. She has no professional training in it but her other passion is interior design. She owned an interior design company for years but got too busy to manage both businesses so she chose to focus on the salon. Laurie loves all music but country would be her number one, next to a little Snoop Dogg and 90' rap/hiphop. Her favourite weekend movie snack is Zesty Cheese Doritos with a glass of red wine.
